The State of our Society

Nothing makes the mentality and state of our society more crystal clear than evidenced by what stories the wonderful media in this country chooses to follow, in great detail, and for endless amounts of time.

This morning's airwaves had discussions of why stories such as Tiger Woods' personal affairs are so grossly (over)covered and because it's what people want to see, hear, or read about. So the media will cover it ad-nausea, for ratings sake.

One show used the O.J. trial as an example. Many people were wondering why the media was covering the O.J. trial nonstop, but completely ignoring international affairs and what was going on in Bosnia at the time. Because the people wanted to watch O.J.

And this is the perfect example of what is wrong with our society. Our great country. A country that seems to want to follow the O.J. trial moreso than the more important news to follow, as in what's going on around the world and is effecting the United States. A country that wants to follow the Tiger Woods story, moreso than pay attention to the Health Care debate, the U.S. Dollar, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, North Korea, the economy, nuclear bombs, and an enormous amount of slime that abounds in Washington D.C.

You can ask someone on the street what's going on with Tiger. Or who O.J. Simpson is. Or what's going on these days with _enter random celebrity here_ - and they will be able to give you all the celebrity gossip and dirt. Ask them a question about something important, however, and they will stare at you with a blank look and have no clue.

And these are the people who vote. These are the people who choose our leaders, with the right to vote, who are completely clueless on the matters that are most important. Scary.

Why do you think the election coverage by the mass media was all about tabloid style headlines? No look into who Obama was, or if he was even qualified to be a President of our great country - but the Sarah Palin tabloid stories just kept on coming. What shoes was she wearing? How expensive is her dress? Non-stop coverage about her pregnant daughter, and her boyfriend. Who's the father of Sarah's son?

And then after the election.......hey wait a minute, do we know anything about this guy?

It is a scary state of mind, our society. An unqualified society, with the power to vote in unqualified people, to run our great Country.

What is wrong with us? What has happened to our priorities?

Something has gone horribly, horribly wrong.
