For Their Next Trick . . .

The latest example of violating principles of transparency and accountability in the single-minded pursuit of legislative victory.

CLICK HERE FOR WALL STREET JOURNAL ARTICLE

By JOHN FUND
Look for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to try to circumvent the traditional conference committee process by which the different versions of health care reform passed by each house will be reconciled. If so, it will be the latest example of violating principles of transparency and accountability in the single-minded pursuit of legislative victory.

Conferences involving members from both houses are messy things. They are usually conducted in public and often televised, and can produce a compromise version of the bill that leaves rank-and-file members tempted to vote against the final version. That could be perilous in the case of health care since it's likely to pass without a vote to spare in the Senate and the House's version passed by only five votes.

North Dakota Senator Kent Conrad, chair of the Budget Committee, has already warned that if the final bill "isn't close to the Senate bill, there will be no way to get the 60 votes here" to shut off debate and pass the final product. But many House members, led by Michigan Rep. John Conyers, are insisting on major changes in the Senate's version.

Mr. Reid and Ms. Pelosi would love to come up with a way to bash heads in private and skip any public discussion that further reveals just how incoherent and unworkable both the bills are. Luckily, there is a subterfuge readily available that wouldn't require the House to swallow the Senate's bill unchanged but also ducks the traditional give-and-take of the conference committee.

When Democrats took over Congress in 2007, they increasingly did not send bills through the regular conference process. "We have to defer to the bigger picture," explained Rep. Henry Waxman of California. So the children's health insurance bill passed by the House that year was largely dumped in favor of the Senate's version. House Ways and Means Chairman Charles Rangel and other Democrats complained the House had been "cut off at the knees" but ultimately supported the bill. Legislation on lobbying reform and the 2007 energy bill were handled the same way -- without appointing an actual conference.

Rather than appoint members to a public conference committee, those measures were "ping-ponged" -- i.e. changes to reconcile the two versions were transmitted by messenger between the two houses as the final product was crafted behind closed doors solely by the leadership. Many Democrats grumbled at the secrecy. "We need to get back to the point where we use conference committees . . . and have serious dialogue," said Rep. Artur Davis of Alabama at the time.

But serious dialogue isn't what Speaker Pelosi and Majority Leader Reid are interested in right now. Look for the traditional conference committee to be replaced by a "ping-pong" game in which health care is finalized behind closed doors with little public scrutiny before the bill is rushed to the floor of each chamber for a final vote.

SCARY HARRY HIDES THE HEALTH BILL

‘And here’s the most outrageous part: at the end of this rush, they want us to vote on a bill that no one outside the Majority Leader’s conference room has even seen. That’s right. The final bill we’ll vote on isn’t even the one we’ve had on the floor. It’s the deal Democrat leaders have been trying to work out in private’

Passing out Prizes - The Free Lunch Award

Obama Accepts Nobel With 'Great Humility'
President acknowledges controversy as he accepts Peace Prize in time of war

These types of headlines crack me up.

I don't know about everyone else, but to me, the fact we are in 2 wars in Iraq and Afghanistan is not the controversy. Maybe to the liberals and the liberal media, who are mad at Barry for not cutting and running out of the wars. But not to me.

No, to me - the controversy is, his being awarded a Nobel Peace Prize, for doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING.

Try again, media. Someone tell me WHY he's getting the Nobel Peace Prize. That's what I want to know.

Or do they just give these things out now? Can I have one?

The irony of all this is - the majority of his supporters (aside from the Bush-hate votes) are all free-lunchers. The something for nothing gang....

In which case........how appropriate it truly is. Isn't it?

Glenn Beck - Meet the Other Gatecrasher

Glenn Beck - Current Events & Politics

A convicted felon, who was invited to the White House for a state dinner — that alone is exceptionally rare. But even more interesting is that in his prison manual, Creamer laid out a "Progressive Agenda for Structural Change," which included a 10-point plan for foisting universal health care on the American people in 2009.

The State of our Society

Nothing makes the mentality and state of our society more crystal clear than evidenced by what stories the wonderful media in this country chooses to follow, in great detail, and for endless amounts of time.

This morning's airwaves had discussions of why stories such as Tiger Woods' personal affairs are so grossly (over)covered and because it's what people want to see, hear, or read about. So the media will cover it ad-nausea, for ratings sake.

One show used the O.J. trial as an example. Many people were wondering why the media was covering the O.J. trial nonstop, but completely ignoring international affairs and what was going on in Bosnia at the time. Because the people wanted to watch O.J.

And this is the perfect example of what is wrong with our society. Our great country. A country that seems to want to follow the O.J. trial moreso than the more important news to follow, as in what's going on around the world and is effecting the United States. A country that wants to follow the Tiger Woods story, moreso than pay attention to the Health Care debate, the U.S. Dollar, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, North Korea, the economy, nuclear bombs, and an enormous amount of slime that abounds in Washington D.C.

You can ask someone on the street what's going on with Tiger. Or who O.J. Simpson is. Or what's going on these days with _enter random celebrity here_ - and they will be able to give you all the celebrity gossip and dirt. Ask them a question about something important, however, and they will stare at you with a blank look and have no clue.

And these are the people who vote. These are the people who choose our leaders, with the right to vote, who are completely clueless on the matters that are most important. Scary.

Why do you think the election coverage by the mass media was all about tabloid style headlines? No look into who Obama was, or if he was even qualified to be a President of our great country - but the Sarah Palin tabloid stories just kept on coming. What shoes was she wearing? How expensive is her dress? Non-stop coverage about her pregnant daughter, and her boyfriend. Who's the father of Sarah's son?

And then after the election.......hey wait a minute, do we know anything about this guy?

It is a scary state of mind, our society. An unqualified society, with the power to vote in unqualified people, to run our great Country.

What is wrong with us? What has happened to our priorities?

Something has gone horribly, horribly wrong.

How The Media Creates Its Own News (Tiger Woods Story)

After the latest celebrity gossip story that has taken the news agencies and radio airwaves by storm - I come to the basic premise and ask this simple question -

WHO THE HELL CARES ABOUT TIGER WOODS' PERSONAL LIFE?!?!?!

The media is bummed because the Florida Highway Patrol announced they are giving Tiger a $164 ticket for careless driving, and 4 pts on his license. That's all there is.

Immediately after the accident happened, the media instantly refers to the tabloid story about Tiger Woods. Yes, the tabloids, whom we dismiss along with the Alien abduction stories, but so fast to use them as Exhibit A to generate a ratings-killer news story!!!

Do we see how the media works?

Tabloids start rumors, then things happen because of the tabloids, at times causing strife within a family. Then they report on the aftermath as NEWS, when they started the news in the first place, whether true or not. The media simply creates its own news.

And it's not solely the media to blame. A lot of people watch and want to know all about a celebrity's personal business, and meanwhile their own lives and family goes to crap because they're too busy watching tabloid news about celebrity gossip.

So i say then we make this come around full circle, line up the media outside their house, then they read about themselves on the news, and see how it feels.

HEADLINE: "Deadbeat Mom watches news all day about Tiger Woods and Michael Jackson and whoever the hell else. Meanwhile, kid jumps out 4 story bedroom window. Photos on TMZ."

Mom reading website: "What? Hey that's my house! Oh my gosh that's my kid!"

Get a grip, people. Focus on your own lives, quit supporting the tabloids and paparazzi, and help us get the media on track, reporting ACTUAL IMPORTANT NEWS!

Glenn Beck - When Is an Extremist Not an Extremist?

Glenn Beck on the Double Standard of the Extremism Label

Glenn Beck - Current Events & Politics - When Is an Extremist Not an Extremist?

I've been down for a couple of days, so I may have missed this, but, has anybody over at the White House labeled Nidal Malik Hasan — the terrorist who killed 13 and wounded 30 more at Fort Hood — an extremist?

I've heard him referred to as a "shooter" and a "gunman." He's been called "troubled" and "harassed." We know he didn't want to be deployed and his cousin called him a "good American." But extremist?

No, we can't say that; we wouldn't want offend anyone.

Are we that politically correct? I guess so. But there is no hesitation by Barack Obama's political arm, Organizing for America, to send out an e-mail calling tea party goers extremists:

"Across the country, members of Congress who support reform are being shouted down, physically assaulted, hung in effigy, and receiving death threats. We can't let extremists hijack this debate, or confuse Congress about where the people stand."

So, that's extremism, but killing 13 people isn't?

Obama says don't jump to conclusions on shooting

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama said Friday the entire nation is grieving for those slain at Fort Hood, and he urged people not to jump to conclusions while law enforcement officers investigate the shootings.

"We don't know all the answers yet. And I would caution against jumping to conclusions until we have all the facts," Obama said in a Rose Garden statement otherwise devoted to the economy.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091106/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_obama_fort_hood

That's right, folks. The same guy, who just a short time ago, jumped right out there without any facts and accused Law Enforcement of "acting stupidly" and racial profiling. This same man now educates us all, and "cautions" us, that we should not jump to conclusions about the Ft. Hood incident.

Fox News Channel, Obama Administration Talking

Fox News Channel, Obama administration talking; Fox news executive meets Obama press secretary

{snip}

Meanwhile, Fox received support Wednesday from an unlikely source: CNN's prime-time host Campbell Brown. She interviewed Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett and asked whether the White House considered left-leaning MSNBC biased as well. Jarrett wouldn't speak about the network.

She "seems loathe to admit that MSNBC has a bias," Brown said. "And that is where I think the White House loses all credibility on this issue."

If the White House wants to talk about bias in the media, officials "should elevate the conversation and talk about bias on the right and on the left," Brown said. "Because when you just target one side, you reveal your own bias — that you are only critical of those who are critical of you."

No, it's not "funny"!

Comedian Larry David pushed the mocking of religion over the edge in latest episode of his HBO show, critics say.

The Double Standard: What would happen if this were a picture of Mohammad, Budha, or any other religious symbol?

This "I'm a comedian" get-out-of-jail free card BS needs to stop, and it needs to stop, immediately.

Either that, or we play the Double Standard. Every single Christian/Conservative American needs to officially file themselves as a card-carrying "comedian", and then perhaps we can finally have freedom of speech, and avoid being called 'racists'. No, we're comedians. Here, have a business card.

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/news/oil-price-passes-80-for-first-time-in-a-year-1806215.html

"The oil price is not really following demand and supply signals," said David Hunter, an analyst at the independent energy consultancy McKinnon & Clarke. "The increases this month are related to signs of economic optimism, especially in the US, as well as a weaker dollar price and seasonal increases in demand for fuel."

Uh huh.

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5i4_q7DtiEHvUTVNlJoaJ9ufkd1kgD9BFMHGO0

Wednesday's lift was provided by a weak dollar and
government oil inventory data showing a sharp drop in gasoline
supplies and a smaller-than-expected rise in crude oil stocks.

There is usually a lag between the direction of crude bought and sold on Nymex and the price that people pay for gasoline to fill up their cars.

Only when the prices drop is there this "lag". There is no lag, however, when the prices go up. That amazingly occurs and becomes visible at the pumps, overnight.

"Crude and products futures fell in heavy overnight volume
as the dollar strengthened against the euro," Addison
Armstrong, analyst at Tradition Energy in Stamford,
Connecticut, said in a note.

Oh so it's the dollar against the euro, now? Must add that one.

Oil prices hit new highs for the year Wednesday just as the dollar fell to new lows against the euro, showing how much the weak U.S. currency has come to dominate energy markets.

The run-up in prices came within minutes of a government report showing that crude supplies in the United States are growing and that refiners are producing very little gasoline because consumers aren't using as much.

Then why do we have a shortage, if we're not using as much?

The oil producers' cartel, Opec, reacted to the rise by cautioning against further increases. The head of Opec, Abdallah Salem el-Badri, said an oil price of more than $80 risked damaging any burgeoning economic growth.

But, wasn't it you, OPEC, who cut supplies in half when fuel prices were down around the $40/barrel range. But now they caution everyone against further increases. YOU CUT supplies in half earlier this year, or are you assuming we surely forgot about that by now? Not happening, thanks to the Double Standard Fuel Price Excuse List! #21 - #25 added. More to come!

Excuse Tracker for reasons that gas prices increase:

1. Winter months, heating
2. Hurricane in Gulf of Mexico
3. Manufacturing demands by industrial nations, i.e. China
4. Americans and SUVs
5. Market speculation
6. March and April "pressures on refineries"
7. Tensions in Middle East
8. A whale died in the Atlantic
9. A turtle sneezed in the Pacific
10. Global warming
11. Pollen levels
12. Jupiter's red spot
13. The dog ate it.
14. Gas prices take a while to come down because the stations are still selling what they bought at the higher prices
15. Gas prices take no time at all to skyrocket overnight, because reason #14 doesn't apply the other way around.
16. Oil up to pay for alternative resource research
17. Because OPEC says so!
18. A special summer blend is more expensive than the winter blend, as it uses special ingredients! But I thought it was higher in the winter because of the heating demands?
19. Summer vacation, kids are off! And since they all drive cars, this makes total sense!
20. Memorial Day weekend and Independence Day, even tho it's still May and that's in July.
*NEW*
21. Weak dollar causing gas prices to rise
22. Strong dollar gets it back under $80
23. Fuel supply shortage (because OPEC cut the supply in half, right?)
24. Dollar against the Euro
25. See #1 - winter heating, as it got cold in some parts of the U.S. in October, thanks to...global warming?

White House Urges Other Networks to Disregard Fox News

When communist applauding White House staff want to silence a news entity such as Fox News, take notice. Let the Iranian election protests and the death of one of their own in the streets, and one-sided propaganda media along with complete internet shutdown, be a warning to us here in this country. And hopefully, not a glimpse into our own future.

CNN "Fact Checks" SNL

"Can one even imagine CNN fact checking any of the skits SNL on President Bush or Sarah Palin?? Heaven forbid SNL finally make fun of President Obama. CNN couldn't help themselves. They actually fact checked the jokes. "(CNN video on page) - Kathleen McKinley, Newsbusters.org ////
"CNN is worried (that) Saturday Night Live dared run a sketch mocking Obama as failing to deliver on any of his campaign promises. They then spend 4 minutes trying to say SNL is wrong...

First it's comedy, so fact checking it is silly. Second they fail to mention that the skit when through a list of about 20 promises Obama hasn't even sniffed at fulfilling.
It's not news, it's CNN..."

Have You Noticed?

Anyone remember during the Bush administration, how we were inundated by main stream media news outlets every single day with U.S. troop death counts in Iraq?

Leading up to the election, it was in full throttle. No support of what our U.S. men and women military personnel were doing over there, or why they were doing it. Just body counts.

These days you would think if you watch CNN, etc - from the silence, that everyone in Iraq must be sitting around now with picnic baskets and playing hopscotch.

What happened to the daily reports of what's going on in Iraq? Is it pure coincidence these reports seemed to come to a halt and utter silence, once Barry went into office?

What happened, MSM? What happened to the daily doom and gloom reports and counts? Why has this become such a non-issue, now? Why is it suddenly no longer newsworthy? I wonder why?????

The World is not on the Kool-Aid

Obama's Olympic Failure Highlights Limits of His International Appeal

"It shows how childish our understanding of international affairs is," political analyst Tucker Carlson told FOX News. "The idea that countries, because they like the president personally, will change their basic positions on things is absurd." Countries act in their own interest, Carlson said, and U.S. elections don't affect what those interests are.

"So the idea that Obama, because he's popular in the rest of the world, will somehow make America a more effective negotiator internationally, that's absurd," he said. "That was one of the reasons people voted for this president in the first place. I thought it was silly then. It's proved to be silly now. This is an adult world. People don't act because they have affection for a leader."

Point, Tucker Carlson.

"It is totally bizarre that some people would put their personal hatred of President Obama above their loyalty to this country and actually cheer when the U.S. loses a bid to host the Olympics," foreign policy analyst Joseph Cirincione told FOXNews.com in a phone interview from Switzerland. "To me it shows how obsessed some people are with the personality, the psychology of Barack Obama."

Really? I wonder if Joesph Cirincione realizes he just described Obama's entire fan base, er....supporters?

Die Quickly?

So the villainous Democratic Rep. from Florida, Alan Grayson, said the Republican health care plan is for sick people to "Die Quickly."

So, I was debating what the best response to this would be.

Option 1 - Find it ironic that this comes from a Pro-Abortion party. There's no quicker way of dying than before you're even born.

Or

Option B - Democrats, meanwhile.....want people to READ QUICKLY.

I'll go with Option C. Both of the above.

Former President Carter draws fire for claiming Rep. Joe Wilson's outburst during President Obama's health care speech — in fact, ANY criticism of the president — is 'based on racism.'

This Epitome of the Double Standard was obvious during the elections (if you didn't vote for Barry, you were racist) from the voter/fan base up to the nominee and all the way through the press........and it is seemingly only getting worse now (if you don't agree with him, you're a racist).

Looks like some kid acted "stupidly"

So what happens when there's a video of a black kid beating up a white kid on a school bus on the internet? While the other kids on the bus cheer? And where was the bus driver?

Is there a card to play for this? Because you know if this was the other way around, this would be all over the Liberal media, and somehow linking it to the tea parties and conservative movements - because according to them it's all about racism. That's what all the outrage is about.

So what do we do? Should I call Sharpton or Jesse? Will Obama make a statement about it and launch an investigation? Will he have the two kids over for a beer? I'm confused and know not what to do, here. Save us, Barry.

ACORN Turns in Florida Workers on Voter Fraud Charges

Arrest warrants have been issued in Miami for 11 people suspected of falsifying information on hundreds of voter registration cards last year.

The FBI and state authorities were making arrests Wednesday. The workers being sought were hired to register voters by the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN.

Prosecutors say they were first notified by ACORN about problems with workers in June 2008.

Republicans and conservative activists have accused ACORN of fraud in voter registration drives around the country. ACORN officials say the Florida case proves the organization is committed to an honest process.

The case involved nearly 900 fraudulent voter cards in the Homestead area.

He's at it again with his two-faced Xbox comment...

You know it's funny, Double Standard Barry mentions this again and so I can't help once again bringing this up...

When ol' two face Barry brings up parent's responsibilities with their kids, he speaks to his own voter base. For one, it's obvious that those whom oppose his views and administration, whom are not the American Idol voters, nor sip the Bob-The-Builder Yes We Can kool-aid - apparently have no problems being in tune with their children and what's going on in their children's school...since many parents were on this like you-know-what on stink....

But then he goes bringing up the Xbox thing again, this again shows how he's speaking to his own supporters...his own voters....You might remember I pointed this out once before: BARRY AND HIS VIDEO GAME DOUBLE STANDARD

That's right. The guy who put out massive advertisements in video games during his campaign to get more votes and get elected....that's right, all you parents out there who he was aiming at to get your votes....yes all of you....thanks, now that Barry's done with you, stop being deadbeat parents and start being responsible, now. Back To School Remarks Released / Live Stream

Prepared Remarks of President Barack Obama
Back to School Event

Arlington, Virginia
September 8, 2009

The President: Hello everyone – how’s everybody doing today? I’m here with students at Wakefield High School in Arlington, Virginia. And we’ve got students tuning in from all across America, kindergarten through twelfth grade. I’m glad you all could join us today.

I know that for many of you, today is the first day of school. And for those of you in kindergarten, or starting middle or high school, it’s your first day in a new school, so it’s understandable if you’re a little nervous. I imagine there are some seniors out there who are feeling pretty good right now, with just one more year to go. And no matter what grade you’re in, some of you are probably wishing it were still summer, and you could’ve stayed in bed just a little longer this morning.
I know that feeling. When I was young, my family lived in Indonesia for a few years, and my mother didn’t have the money to send me where all the American kids went to school. So she decided to teach me extra lessons herself, Monday through Friday – at 4:30 in the morning.

Now I wasn’t too happy about getting up that early. A lot of times, I’d fall asleep right there at the kitchen table. But whenever I’d complain, my mother would just give me one of those looks and say, "This is no picnic for me either, buster."
So I know some of you are still adjusting to being back at school. But I’m here today because I have something important to discuss with you. I’m here because I want to talk with you about your education and what’s expected of all of you in this new school year.

Now I’ve given a lot of speeches about education. And I’ve talked a lot about responsibility.
I’ve talked about your teachers’ responsibility for inspiring you, and pushing you to learn.
I’ve talked about your parents’ responsibility for making sure you stay on track, and get your homework done, and don’t spend every waking hour in front of the TV or with that Xbox.

I’ve talked a lot about your government’s responsibility for setting high standards, supporting teachers and principals, and turning around schools that aren’t working where students aren’t getting the opportunities they deserve.

But at the end of the day, we can have the most dedicated teachers, the most supportive parents, and the best schools in the world – and none of it will matter unless all of you fulfill your responsibilities. Unless you show up to those schools; pay attention to those teachers; listen to your parents, grandparents and other adults; and put in the hard work it takes to succeed.

And that’s what I want to focus on today: the responsibility each of you has for your education. I want to start with the responsibility you have to yourself.
Every single one of you has something you’re good at. Every single one of you has something to offer. And you have a responsibility to yourself to discover what that is. That’s the opportunity an education can provide.

Maybe you could be a good writer – maybe even good enough to write a book or articles in a newspaper – but you might not know it until you write a paper for your English class. Maybe you could be an innovator or an inventor – maybe even good enough to come up with the next iPhone or a new medicine or vaccine – but you might not know it until you do a project for your science class. Maybe you could be a mayor or a Senator or a Supreme Court Justice, but you might not know that until you join student government or the debate team.

And no matter what you want to do with your life – I guarantee that you’ll need an education to do it. You want to be a doctor, or a teacher, or a police officer? You want to be a nurse or an architect, a lawyer or a member of our military? You’re going to need a good education for every single one of those careers. You can’t drop out of school and just drop into a good job. You’ve got to work for it and train for it and learn for it.

And this isn’t just important for your own life and your own future. What you make of your education will decide nothing less than the future of this country. What you’re learning in school today will determine whether we as a nation can meet our greatest challenges in the future.

You’ll need the knowledge and problem-solving skills you learn in science and math to cure diseases like cancer and AIDS, and to develop new energy technologies and protect our environment. You’ll need the insights and critical thinking skills you gain in history and social studies to fight poverty and homelessness, crime and discrimination, and make our nation more fair and more free. You’ll need the creativity and ingenuity you develop in all your classes to build new companies that will create new jobs and boost our economy.

We need every single one of you to develop your talents, skills and intellect so you can help solve our most difficult problems. If you don’t do that – if you quit on school – you’re not just quitting on yourself, you’re quitting on your country.
Now I know it’s not always easy to do well in school. I know a lot of you have challenges in your lives right now that can make it hard to focus on your schoolwork.
I get it. I know what that’s like. My father left my family when I was two years old, and I was raised by a single mother who struggled at times to pay the bills and wasn’t always able to give us things the other kids had. There were times when I missed having a father in my life. There were times when I was lonely and felt like I didn’t fit in.

So I wasn’t always as focused as I should have been. I did some things I’m not proud of, and got in more trouble than I should have. And my life could have easily taken a turn for the worse.

But I was fortunate. I got a lot of second chances and had the opportunity to go to college, and law school, and follow my dreams. My wife, our First Lady Michelle Obama, has a similar story. Neither of her parents had gone to college, and they didn’t have much. But they worked hard, and she worked hard, so that she could go to the best schools in this country.

Some of you might not have those advantages. Maybe you don’t have adults in your life who give you the support that you need. Maybe someone in your family has lost their job, and there’s not enough money to go around. Maybe you live in a neighborhood where you don’t feel safe, or have friends who are pressuring you to do things you know aren’t right.

But at the end of the day, the circumstances of your life – what you look like, where you come from, how much money you have, what you’ve got going on at home – that’s no excuse for neglecting your homework or having a bad attitude. That’s no excuse for talking back to your teacher, or cutting class, or dropping out of school. That’s no excuse for not trying.

Where you are right now doesn’t have to determine where you’ll end up. No one’s written your destiny for you. Here in America, you write your own destiny. You make your own future.

That’s what young people like you are doing every day, all across America.
Young people like Jazmin Perez, from Roma, Texas. Jazmin didn’t speak English when she first started school. Hardly anyone in her hometown went to college, and neither of her parents had gone either. But she worked hard, earned good grades, got a scholarship to Brown University, and is now in graduate school, studying public health, on her way to being Dr. Jazmin Perez.
I’m thinking about Andoni Schultz, from Los Altos, California, who’s fought brain cancer since he was three. He’s endured all sorts of treatments and surgeries, one of which affected his memory, so it took him much longer – hundreds of extra hours – to do his schoolwork. But he never fell behind, and he’s headed to college this fall.

And then there’s Shantell Steve, from my hometown of Chicago, Illinois. Even when bouncing from foster home to foster home in the toughest neighborhoods, she managed to get a job at a local health center; start a program to keep young people out of gangs; and she’s on track to graduate high school with honors and go on to college.
Jazmin, Andoni and Shantell aren’t any different from any of you. They faced challenges in their lives just like you do. But they refused to give up. They chose to take responsibility for their education and set goals for themselves. And I expect all of you to do the same.

That’s why today, I’m calling on each of you to set your own goals for your education – and to do everything you can to meet them. Your goal can be something as simple as doing all your homework, paying attention in class, or spending time each day reading a book. Maybe you’ll decide to get involved in an extracurricular activity, or volunteer in your community. Maybe you’ll decide to stand up for kids who are being teased or bullied because of who they are or how they look, because you believe, like I do, that all kids deserve a safe environment to study and learn. Maybe you’ll decide to take better care of yourself so you can be more ready to learn. And along those lines, I hope you’ll all wash your hands a lot, and stay home from school when you don’t feel well, so we can keep people from getting the flu this fall and winter.

Whatever you resolve to do, I want you to commit to it. I want you to really work at it.

I know that sometimes, you get the sense from TV that you can be rich and successful without any hard work -- that your ticket to success is through rapping or basketball or being a reality TV star, when chances are, you’re not going to be any of those things.

But the truth is, being successful is hard. You won’t love every subject you study. You won’t click with every teacher. Not every homework assignment will seem completely relevant to your life right this minute. And you won’t necessarily succeed at everything the first time you try.

That’s OK. Some of the most successful people in the world are the ones who’ve had the most failures. JK Rowling’s first Harry Potter book was rejected twelve times before it was finally published. Michael Jordan was cut from his high school basketball team, and he lost hundreds of games and missed thousands of shots during his career. But he once said, "I have failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed."

These people succeeded because they understand that you can’t let your failures define you – you have to let them teach you. You have to let them show you what to do differently next time. If you get in trouble, that doesn’t mean you’re a troublemaker, it means you need to try harder to behave. If you get a bad grade, that doesn’t mean you’re stupid, it just means you need to spend more time studying.
No one’s born being good at things, you become good at things through hard work. You’re not a varsity athlete the first time you play a new sport. You don’t hit every note the first time you sing a song. You’ve got to practice. It’s the same with your schoolwork. You might have to do a math problem a few times before you get it right, or read something a few times before you understand it, or do a few drafts of a paper before it’s good enough to hand in.

Don’t be afraid to ask questions. Don’t be afraid to ask for help when you need it. I do that every day. Asking for help isn’t a sign of weakness, it’s a sign of strength. It shows you have the courage to admit when you don’t know something, and to learn something new. So find an adult you trust – a parent, grandparent or teacher; a coach or counselor – and ask them to help you stay on track to meet your goals.

And even when you’re struggling, even when you’re discouraged, and you feel like other people have given up on you – don’t ever give up on yourself. Because when you give up on yourself, you give up on your country.

The story of America isn’t about people who quit when things got tough. It’s about people who kept going, who tried harder, who loved their country too much to do anything less than their best.

It’s the story of students who sat where you sit 250 years ago, and went on to wage a revolution and found this nation. Students who sat where you sit 75 years ago who overcame a Depression and won a world war; who fought for civil rights and put a man on the moon. Students who sat where you sit 20 years ago who founded Google, Twitter and Facebook and changed the way we communicate with each other.
So today, I want to ask you, what’s your contribution going to be? What problems are you going to solve? What discoveries will you make? What will a president who comes here in twenty or fifty or one hundred years say about what all of you did for this country?

Your families, your teachers, and I are doing everything we can to make sure you have the education you need to answer these questions. I’m working hard to fix up your classrooms and get you the books, equipment and computers you need to learn. But you’ve got to do your part too. So I expect you to get serious this year. I expect you to put your best effort into everything you do. I expect great things from each of you. So don’t let us down – don’t let your family or your country or yourself down. Make us all proud. I know you can do it.
Thank you, God bless you, and God bless America.

So What Exactly is Obama planning to say to our children?

A President speaking to children about education and staying in school? Sure.
Trust Barry who's lied about every single thing that's come out of his mouth up to this point, and trust his propganda machine, with our kids? Hell no.

Green jobs 'czar' signed 'truther' statement in 2004

http://washingtontimes.com/weblogs/back-story/2009/sep/03/green-jobs-czar-signed-truther-statement-in-2004/

Mr. Jones signed a statement for 911Truth.org in 2004 demanding an investigation into what the Bush Administration may have done that “deliberately allowed 9/11 to happen, perhaps as a pretext for war.”

His name is listed with 99 other prominent signatories supporting such an investigation on the 911Truth.org website, including Code Pink co-founders Medea Benjamin and Jodi Evans, comedienne Janeane Garofalo, Democratic Rep. Cynthia McKinney of Georgia and others. He's identified as the executive director for the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights on the statement, which he founded before going to the White House.

Fox News personalty Glenn Beck has described Mr. Jones as a "radical" on his program and many conservative blogs have questioned his political tactics and strategies. Mr. Jones recently landed in hot water when a video surfaced of him calling Republicans a disparaging name
(i.e. a**holes) - at an energy lecture in Berkeley, California last February. He apologized for those remarks in an email to the Politico this week.

This the same Van Jones that said:

"We're really entering a third wave of environmentalism in the United States. The white polluters and the white environmentalists are essentially steering poison into the people of color communities."

One reader of the article comments: 'Wasn't the Obama administration supposed to be the beginning of a "post-racial" America? Why does he have "special advisors" out there openly attempting to create an even bigger racial divide?'

Bill would give president emergency control of Internet

Post: 9/11 Patriot Act, anyone?...where's the outrage now?
What is this, Iran?

Internet companies and civil liberties groups were alarmed this spring when a U.S. Senate bill proposed handing the White House the power to disconnect private-sector computers from the Internet.

They're not much happier about a revised version that aides to Sen. Jay Rockefeller, a West Virginia Democrat, have spent months drafting behind closed doors. CNET News has obtained a copy of the 55-page draft of S.773 (excerpt), which still appears to permit the president to seize temporary control of private-sector networks during a so-called cybersecurity emergency.
The new version would allow the president to "declare a cybersecurity emergency" relating to "non-governmental" computer networks and do what's necessary to respond to the threat. Other sections of the proposal include a federal certification program for "cybersecurity professionals," and a requirement that certain computer systems and networks in the private sector be managed by people who have been awarded that license.

"I think the redraft, while improved, remains troubling due to its vagueness," said Larry Clinton, president of the Internet Security Alliance, which counts representatives of Verizon, Verisign, Nortel, and Carnegie Mellon University on its board. "It is unclear what authority Sen. Rockefeller thinks is necessary over the private sector. Unless this is clarified, we cannot properly analyze, let alone support the bill."

Representatives of other large Internet and telecommunications companies expressed concerns about the bill in a teleconference with Rockefeller's aides this week, but were not immediately available for interviews on Thursday.

A spokesman for Rockefeller also declined to comment on the record Thursday, saying that many people were unavailable because of the summer recess. A Senate source familiar with the bill compared the president's power to take control of portions of the Internet to what President Bush did when grounding all aircraft on Sept. 11, 2001. The source said that one primary concern was the electrical grid, and what would happen if it were attacked from a broadband connection.

When Rockefeller, the chairman of the Senate Commerce committee, and Olympia Snowe (R-Maine) introduced the original bill in April, they claimed it was vital to protect national cybersecurity. "We must protect our critical infrastructure at all costs--from our water to our electricity, to banking, traffic lights and electronic health records," Rockefeller said.
The Rockefeller proposal plays out against a broader concern in Washington, D.C., about the government's role in cybersecurity. In May, President Obama acknowledged that the government is "not as prepared" as it should be to respond to disruptions and announced that a new cybersecurity coordinator position would be created inside the White House staff. Three months later, that post remains empty, one top cybersecurity aide has quit, and some wags have begun to wonder why a government that receives failing marks on cybersecurity should be trusted to instruct the private sector what to do.

Rockefeller's revised legislation seeks to reshuffle the way the federal government addresses the topic. It requires a "cybersecurity workforce plan" from every federal agency, a "dashboard" pilot project, measurements of hiring effectiveness, and the implementation of a "comprehensive national cybersecurity strategy" in six months--even though its mandatory legal review will take a year to complete.

The privacy implications of sweeping changes implemented before the legal review is finished worry Lee Tien, a senior staff attorney with the Electronic Frontier Foundation in San Francisco. "As soon as you're saying that the federal government is going to be exercising this kind of power over private networks, it's going to be a really big issue," he says.

Probably the most controversial language begins in Section 201, which permits the president to "direct the national response to the cyber threat" if necessary for "the national defense and security." The White House is supposed to engage in "periodic mapping" of private networks deemed to be critical, and those companies "shall share" requested information with the federal government. ("Cyber" is defined as anything having to do with the Internet, telecommunications, computers, or computer networks.)

"The language has changed but it doesn't contain any real additional limits," EFF's Tien says. "It simply switches the more direct and obvious language they had originally to the more ambiguous (version)...The designation of what is a critical infrastructure system or network as far as I can tell has no specific process. There's no provision for any administrative process or review. That's where the problems seem to start. And then you have the amorphous powers that go along with it."

Translation: If your company is deemed "critical," a new set of regulations kick in involving who you can hire, what information you must disclose, and when the government would exercise control over your computers or network.

The Internet Security Alliance's Clinton adds that his group is "supportive of increased federal involvement to enhance cyber security, but we believe that the wrong approach, as embodied in this bill as introduced, will be counterproductive both from an national economic and national secuity perspective."

GovernmentCare’s Assault on Seniors

Dr. McCaughey exposes and explains what is in the proposed single-payer/socialized health care program that was written by House Democrats and POTUS. Her interview is chilling and revealing, especially for older Americans.

Since Medicare was established in 1965, access to care has enabled older Americans to avoid becoming disabled and to travel and live independently instead of languishing in nursing homes. But legislation now being rushed through Congress—H.R. 3200 and the Senate Health Committee Bill—will reduce access to care, pressure the elderly to end their lives prematurely, and doom baby boomers to painful later years.

The Congressional majority wants to pay for its $1 trillion to $1.6 trillion health bills with new taxes and a $500 billion cut to Medicare. This cut will come just as baby boomers turn 65 and increase Medicare enrollment by 30%. Less money and more patients will necessitate rationing. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that only 1% of Medicare cuts will come from eliminating fraud, waste and abuse.

The assault against seniors began with the stimulus package in February. Slipped into the bill was substantial funding for comparative effectiveness research, which is generally code for limiting care based on the patient’s age. Economists are familiar with the formula, where the cost of a treatment is divided by the number of years (called QALYs, or quality-adjusted life years) that the patient is likely to benefit. In Britain, the formula leads to denying treatments for older patients who have fewer years to benefit from care than younger patients.

When comparative effectiveness research appeared in the stimulus bill, Rep. Charles Boustany Jr., (R., La.) a heart surgeon, warned that it would lead to “denying seniors and the disabled lifesaving care.” He and Sen. Jon Kyl (R., Ariz.) proposed amendments to no avail that would have barred the federal government from using the research to eliminate treatments for the elderly or deny care based on age.

In a letter this week to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, White House budget chief Peter Orszag urged Congress to delegate its authority over Medicare to a newly created body within the executive branch. This measure is designed to circumvent the democratic process and avoid accountability to the public for cuts in benefits.

Driving these cuts is the misconception that preventative care can eliminate sickness. As President Obama said in a speech to the American Medical Association: “We have to avoid illness and disease in the first place.” That would make sense if most diseases were preventable. But the two most prevalent diseases of aging—cancer and heart disease—are largely caused by genetics and their occurrence increases with age. Your risk of being diagnosed with cancer doubles from age 50 to 60, according to the National Cancer Institute.

The House bill shifts resources from specialty medicine to primary care based on the misconception that Americans overuse specialist care and drive up costs in the process (pp. 660-686). In fact, heart-disease patients treated by generalists instead of specialists are often misdiagnosed and treated incorrectly. They are readmitted to the hospital more frequently, and die sooner.

“Study after study shows that cardiologists adhere to guidelines better than primary care doctors,” according to Jeffrey Moses, a heart specialist at New York Presbyterian Hospital. Adds Jeffrey Borer, chairman of medicine at SUNY Downstate Medical Center: “Seldom do generalists have the knowledge to identify the symptoms of aortic valve disease, even though more than 10% of people over 75 have it. After valve surgery, patients who were too short of breath to walk can resume a normal life into their 80s or 90s.”

While the House bill being pushed by the president reduces access to such cures and specialists, it ensures that seniors are counseled on end-of-life options, including refusing nutrition where state law allows it (pp. 425-446). In Oregon, some cancer patients are being denied care by the state that could extend their lives and instead are afforded the benefit of physician-assisted suicide instead.

The harshest misconception underlying the legislation is that living longer burdens society. Medicare data prove this is untrue. A patient who dies at 67 spends three times as much on health care at the end of life as a patient who lives to 90, according to Dr. Herbert Pardes, CEO of New York Presbyterian Medical Center.

What is costly is when seniors become disabled. In a 2007 Health Affairs article, researchers reported that surgeries to unclog arteries and replace worn out hips and knees have had a major impact on steadily reducing disability rates. And nondisabled seniors use only one-seventh as much health care as disabled seniors. As a result, the annual increase in per capita health spending on the elderly is less than for the rest of the population.

Nevertheless, Medicare is running out of money. The problem is the number of seniors compared with the smaller number of workers supporting the system with payroll taxes. To remedy the problem, the Congressional Budget Office has suggested inching up the eligibility age one month per year until it reaches age 70 in 2043, or asking wealthy seniors to pay more.

These are reasonable solutions—reducing access to treatments and counseling seniors about cutting life short are not. Medicare has made living to a ripe old age a good value. ObamaCare will undo that.

Health Care Bill Figured Out!

You.......You're Good, Barry! You're good!!!!

This health care reform bill has been told that, while ridiculously costly to put in place, will in turn save us a few billion down the road, as well as stimulate the economy and create jobs. I get it, now. I see what Barry's plan is, you sneaky guy you....you're a genius!

You see, it WILL save us money. Because that's what this bill is really all about. Reducing cost of national health care. Not really about controlling cost of the private system, but just reducing cost, yet promoting it by claiming its purpose is to get everyone health care insurance, including those who don't have any right now. Think about it - with the end of life counseling and the deterance of spending $ on our seniors.....and further along down the road all those who approach and become part of the cutoff age.....you see, all those people simply WON'T GET MEDICAL TREATMENT. Think of ALL THE MONEY WE WILL SAVE!!!! I mean, who cares about lives and stuff, but we'll be SAVING MONEY by simply NOT TAKING CARE OF THEM! Wow, awesome!

And you see - this WILL stimulate the economy, and create jobs - because the FUNERAL HOMES and CEMETARIES will be BOOMING WITH BUSINESS!!!! Just imagine all the JOBS this is going to create, we're gonna have to hire a ton of limmo drivers and build more funeral homes, which WOW that will even get the real estate and construction market BOOMING!

Barry - you......you're good!!!! Pure genius. I don't know what took so long to see the light!

p.s. READ THE DAMN BILL, PEOPLE!

More People Wanting Freebies....

Best Buy $9.99 TV offer was too good to be true

Every **** one of you (with their very own WEBSITE now...) who bought it online and ran to the store waiting in line first thing in the morning with your receipt in hand and all ready for battle, knew that was a typo. There is no 52" TV set for $9.99

Quit the "honor the price" crap, claiming it's bad customer service (like you're a normal customer or something...), get your refund and go back to your hole and shut up. Quit trying to get something for nothing and another freebie in this country, and in turn cost me (the normal shopper) more $ down the road as the company would have to try to recover its losses.

Or, maybe have Barry Obama have a press conference and state that Best Buy acted stupidly, and somehow relate it to an example of profiling/racism in this country. It would be just as applicable as the last time he made that correlation.

Analysis: Press Largely Ignored Incendiary Rhetoric at Bush Protest

News outlets that are focusing on the incendiary rhetoric of conservatives outside President Obama's town hall meeting Tuesday ignored the incendiary rhetoric -- and even violence -- of liberals outside an appearance by former President George W. Bush in 2002.

News outlets that are focusing on the incendiary rhetoric of conservatives outside President Obama's town hall meeting Tuesday ignored the incendiary rhetoric -- and even violence -- of liberals outside an appearance by former President George W. Bush in 2002.

When Bush visited Portland, Ore., for a fundraiser, protesters stalked his motorcade, assailed his limousine and stoned a car containing his advisers. Chanting "Bush is a terrorist!", the demonstrators bullied passers-by, including gay softball players and a wheelchair-bound grandfather with multiple sclerosis.

One protester even brandished a sign that seemed to advocate Bush's assassination. The man held a large photo of Bush that had been doctored to show a gun barrel pressed against his temple.

"BUSH: WANTED, DEAD OR ALIVE," read the placard, which had an X over the word "ALIVE."

Another poster showed Bush's face with the words: "F--- YOU, MOTHERF---ER!"

A third sign urged motorists to "HONK IF YOU HATE BUSH." A fourth declared: "CHRISTIAN FASCISM," with a swastika in place of the letter S in each word.

Although reporters from numerous national news organizations were traveling with Bush and witnessed the protest, none reported that protesters were shrieking at Republican donors epithets like "Slut!" "Whore!" and "Fascists!"

Um, no we didn't - AARP

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/08/12/obama-claim-aarp-endorsement-inaccurate/

At the town hall in Portsmouth, N.H., Obama said, "We have the AARP onboard because they know this is a good deal for our seniors." He added, "AARP would not be endorsing a bill if it was undermining Medicare."

But Tom Nelson, AARP's chief operating officer, said, "Indications that we have endorsed any of the major health care reform bills currently under consideration in Congress are inaccurate."

Like Obama, AARP wants action this year to cover the uninsured and restrain health care costs, but the organization has refrained from endorsing legislation. Nelson said AARP would not endorse a bill that reduces Medicare benefits.

Smelly Reid, Barry Speaks Stupidly, Town Hall Plants - Oh My!

Thought of the day - remember at these town hall meetings who you're talking to?

The Capitol Visitors Center, which opened this morning, may have tripled its original budget and fallen years behind schedule, but Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid found a silver lining for members of Congress: tourists won't offend them with their B.O. anymore.

"My staff tells me not to say this, but I'm going to say it anyway," said Reid in his remarks. "In the summer because of the heat and high humidity, you could literally smell the tourists coming into the Capitol. It may be descriptive but it's true."
